Carpinteria High needed a fourth-quarter comeback to take down Oxnard and they got just that, securing a 13-11 victory over the Yellow Jackets on Thursday.
There were seven lead changes throughout the matchup, with the team’s alternating punches back and forth.
Trailing 9-7 going into the fourth, the Warriors scored six goals in the final period to walk away with the win.
Giulia Piccoletti scored two of those six goals and ended the game with five in total. Meanwhile, Hazel Dugre (3), Lilli Nemetz (2) and Caden Lemere (2) tallied multiple scores as well.
First-year player Ruby Cluderay also found the back of the cage in the win.
“The team showed their perseverance and wore their opponent down in the all-important fourth quarter,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “The Warriors created turnovers which led to breakaway counter-attacks.
“It was a solid early-season win on the road, and the experience will serve the team well as the season progresses.”
The Warriors take on Buena next Tuesday before heading to Hueneme for a four-game tournament next weekend.
