Carpinteria girls water polo celebrated Senior Day with a dominant 15-3 win over Hueneme on Tuesday.

The six Warriors honored for their careers were Lilli Nemetz, Ruby Cluderay, Sia Valikonis, Samantha Nielsen, Devyn Clayton and Sara Fakinos.

“It was a great day to recognize the seniors who had as much as 3 years of experience as two who are brand new to the sport this season,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said.

Nemetz helped get the Warriors out to a fast start, scoring the first two goals of the game in the first three possessions.

Then, the Carpinteria offense erupted for five goals in the second quarter to take an 8-1 lead at halftime.

With a big lead in hand, the Warriors cruised in the second half to the lopsided victory while every single player found the back of the cage at least once.

“They played loose, had fun and played well today,” Otsuki said.

Carpinteria (15-7, 8-1) will wrap up the regular season by hosting Santa Clara on Thursday. A win will make the Warriors the Citrus Coast League co-champion.

Malibu 14, Cate 5

The Rams fell on the road to Malibu to close out the league season.

“Malibu has consistently been the top team in our league over the years so we knew this would be a challenging match,” Cate coach Jesse Morrison said. “Malibu is a well-rounded team and will most likely be our toughest opponent all season.”

Malibu raced out to an early lead over the Rams and never looked back, pulling away for the win.

Despite this, Cate never backed down and ultimately won the fourth quarter by a score of 2-1 to bring the final tally to 14-5.

Carmen Lack led the Rams offense with a pair of goals while Claire Clark, Kate McCoy and Daisy Gemberling all found the back of the cage as well.

Defensively, Cate was anchored by Ellie Walmsley, Karla Camacho and Caroline Keohane.

“I was proud of our no-quit mentality, grit and determination to make positive plays throughout the game,” Morrison said.

The Rams will have their first round of playoff action next Wednesday.
