Carpinteria High boys tennis battled to a 10-8 Citrus Coast League comeback win over Malibu on Thursday.
“We were down 8-7 in points but we were also down big in game totals so we knew we had to pull out all three of those last sets,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “One by one, the boys kept their heads and composure and finished strong to pull out the huge win.”
The Warriors pulled in the majority of their points in doubles action as Servano Campuzano/Ethan Almgren went 3-0 on the day, while John Morrison/Tiago El-Aaidi and Hayden Nordholm/Alex Hansen tallied two wins apiece.
“We were led in doubles today, and I could not be more proud of all three teams. Each had their own storyline and each came through when they needed to,” Bryant said.
Edwin Hernandez rounded out the Carpinteria High victory with a 3-0 singles sweep of his own.
“I am extremely proud of all our players today. The boys showed so much heart and desire even when the stakes were down,” Bryant said.
The Warriors (9-6, 6-1 CCL) will compete in the Citrus Coast League Tournament next week in Carpinteria.
