Carpinteria High head boys water polo and boys basketball coach Karl Fredrickson will be stepping away from both of his coaching roles.

Fredrickson was at the helm of the boys water polo program for two seasons and coached the boys basketball team for the 2024-25 campaign.

He states that the “bittersweet” decision comes as a result of a positive shift in his professional responsibilities, making it impossible for him to devote the necessary time to the programs.

“Coach Fredrickson was a fantastic addition to the athletics department and a wonderful representative of Carpinteria High School,” Carpinteria High athletic director Pat Cooney said.. “He is a great advocate for students and a champion for education-based athletics. He leaves some big shoes to fill.”

Fredrickson guided the boys water polo team to back-to-back Citrus Coast League championships and finished in second place in the Citrus Coast League on the basketball court.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of you – players, parents, coaches, and everyone in the community,” Fredrickson said. “Your unwavering support has meant the world to me, and I am grateful for the trust you placed in me as your coach.

“Although I’m sad to be stepping away, I’m excited about the future of the programs and the success that lies ahead. I will always be cheering for Carpinteria’s continued success.”

Carpinteria High School will seek a new head boys water polo and boys basketball coach as soon as possible. Applications are currently posted by Carpinteria Unified School District on edjoin.com.
