Carpinteria High boys water polo fell at the hands of Camarillo High by a score of 15-8 on Thursday in Carpinteria.
“Considering the odds against them, losing three main varsity players due to sickness, they fought hard and found momentum to maintain their offensive strength,” Carpinteria High head coach Russell Russo said of his squad. “I’m proud of the fight they have in them.”
The Warriors and Scorpions battled in the opening stages of the game, but Camarillo caught fire in the second quarter to pull away for a lead.
Carpinteria High bounced back with a strong second half in which it scored six goals to cut into the deficit, but Camarillo held on for the 15-8 win.
Stefano Picoletti had a strong day in the cage for the Warriors with 12 blocks and two steals, including several point-blank saves.
Offensively, Junius Fedders totaled three goals, three exclusions earned a pair of steals, while Luke Donahue and Cade McCallister each had solid performances.
Carpinteria High will be back in action to host Hueneme next Wednesday.
