Carpinteria High boys water polo dropped a back-and-forth affair with Foothill Tech by a score of 9-7 on Monday at the Ventura Aquatics Center.
The Warriors and Dragons battled to a 1-1 tie after the first, with Oscar De Leon scoring Carpinteria’s lone goal of the opening quarter.
Both teams found a bit more success on the offensive end in the second, and Foothill Tech went into halftime holding a slim 4-3 lead. Cade McCallister and Chris Reed scored for Carpinteria.
The Dragons built up a three-goal lead in the third quarter, but Luke Donahue and Junius Fedders each scored to keep the Warriors close heading into the fourth.
While Carpinteria made one final push, Foothill Tech stood strong on the defensive end and held onto the lead to the 9-7 win.
Stefano Picoletti helped hold the Foothill Tech offense in check, collecting five blocks and dishing out an assist from the cage.
The Warriors will be on the road against Malibu on Tuesday for the regular-season finale.
