Carpinteria High boys water polo fought off a late comeback effort to secure an 11-9 victory over Foothill Tech on Wednesday in Carpinteria.
Ryder Shaw dominated the opening stages for the Warriors with three goals in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Junius Fedders turned in a strong second quarter to help Carpinteria to a 6-2 halftime lead.
Foothill Tech answered with a pair of goals out of the break, but Chris Reed and Luke Donahue made big plays to maintain the lead into the fourth.
The Dragons caught fire in the fourth with four unanswered goals, but Shaw came through with a late goal, and the Carpinteria defense stood strong down the stretch to finish off the 11-9 win.
Stefano Picoletti totaled 13 blocks and a steal in the win for the Warriors, who will host Malibu on Friday.
