Carpinteria High cross country put together a strong showing at the Citrus Coast League Finals on Thursday at Lake Casitas in Ojai.
The Warrior girls placed second while the boys team came in fourth to give both squads a spot in the CIF-SS Div. 5 prelims next Friday at Mt. SAC.
“The girls and boys teams ran aggressively today and pushed some of the big schools to earn their spot in the CIF Prelims,” Carpinteria High head coach Angel Silva said. “The coaches are all very proud of their hard work and effort today.”
The girls squad was led by a pair of top-five finishers as Jaqueline Guadian and Mila Martins placed second and fifth, respectively. Guadian finished in 20:38 and Martins earned a time of 21:39.
They were followed by teammates Victoria Martinez (23:33, 16th), Penelope Rowe (23:43, 17th), Kenzi Gardner (24:17, 20th), Stacie Miranda (24:34, 23rd) and Giarys Gomez (25:21, 27th).

On the boys side, the Warriors were paced by a ninth-place finish from Max Soto, who crossed the finish line in 17:26.
He was joined by Edwin Hernandez (17:40, 12th), Aaron Ortega (17:46, 15th), Jaiden Ambriz (18:37, 24th), Christian Dominguez (18:53, 28th), Gilberto Gomez (19:59, 36th) and Ronni Rosales Bui (20:05, 38th).
Channel Islands captured the boys championship, while Hueneme High placed first as a team in the girls race.
