Carpinteria High football began its Citrus Coast League campaign with a 55-6 rout of Santa Clara on Thursday in Carpinteria.

“It was a total team effort,” Warriors head coach Van Latham said. “We scored in all three phases of the game, offense, defense and special teams. We committed way too many penalties, however. We will have to clean that up when we play Grace next week.”

Carpinteria struck first on a 32-yard pick-six by Gabe Chung to take a first-quarter lead. The Warriors then got it done on the offensive end on a 6-yard rushing touchdown from Chris Jaimes to double the advantage.

The special teams then got in on the fun as Drew Filippini ripped off a 45-yard punt return touchdown to expand the lead to 21-0 heading into the second.

The dominance continued in the second quarter as Jaimes scored on a 38-yard receiving touchdown, Filippini took another punt return back to the house and Isaac Neri rumbled his way into the end zone from 26 yards out.

Santa Clara got on the board just before the break to bring the Carpinteria High lead to 41-6 at halftime.

Jaimes completed the hat trick with a 26-yard rushing touchdown for the lone score of the third quarter to extend the advantage to 48-6 with one quarter to play.

The Warriors put the final cherry on top in the fourth with a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Blayden Bryant to bring the game to its final score of 55-6.

Carpinteria High will take on Grace for another league matchup next Friday.
