Carpinteria High football dropped its third straight game in a 49-14 loss to Webb High on Friday at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium.
It was all Webb in the opening half, as the visitors were clicking on both sides of the ball to pull away for a 28-0 lead heading into the halftime locker rooms.
The Warriors turned in a better performance in the second half, including a 35-yard rushing touchdown by Isaac Neri and a 35-yard touchdown pitch-and-catch from Blayden Bryant to Gabe Chung.
However, Webb continued to have its way on the offensive end with 21 more points to earn the 49-14 win.
“The big plays hurt us in the first half. We had some coverage breakdowns that led to scores. That put us in a hole very quickly,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “We struggled with pass protection in the first half as well. After halftime adjustments, our offense was able to be more effective.
“We still had trouble with the deep ball, however. Their 6-foot-7 receiver gave us trouble with two touchdown catches in the second half.”
The Warriors (0-3) will look to get in the win column on the road against Fillmore next week.
