Carpinteria High football struggled to keep up with Heritage Christian in a 35-0 loss on Friday night at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium.
Heritage Christian ran the opening kickoff out to the Carpinteria 23-yard line and scored just three plays later to take an early 7-0 lead and never looked back en route to the win.
Carpinteria High’s defense came up with several turnovers in the opening half, but Heritage Christian dominated all night long and helped build the lead out to 21-0 by halftime.
Heritage Christian then turned to the run game in the second half, expanding the lead to 35-0 and milking the clock until it secured the road win.
“As well as we blocked and tackled in the first game, it all turned around this game,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “We took a step backward. Heritage outplayed us in every phase of the game.
“They were physical and fast. We did not have any answers. It is still early in the season, however. We have time to correct our course.”
Carpinteria High (0-2) will have a chance to pick up its first win of the season at home next Friday against Webb High.
