Carpinteria High girls soccer battled to a 2-2 draw in a Citrus Coast League matchup with Santa Paula on Friday.
The Warriors struck first as Kaydance Garder scored on a free kick in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead. That score held for the entirety of the first half as both defenses stood tall.
Santa Paula found the back of the net for the equalizer in the 55th minute, but the tie didn’t last long. Just one minute later, Logan Labistour headed in a throw from Lexi Wheatley to give Carpinteria the lead right back at 2-1.
After some back-and-forth action in the second half, Santa Paula scored on a long-distance shot with eight minutes left in regulation to tie the game back up.
Neither team scored for the remaining eight minutes, and neither team could find the back of the net in the 10-minute overtime period to end the game in a draw.
“Due to the rain and field conditions earlier in the week this was our first match back from the winter break and it took a bit to get into our rhythm,” Carpinteria High head coach Freddy Martinez said. “But this result did not hurt us and we hope to be playing our best soccer in the month of January and hopefully into the postseason.”
The Warriors (7-0-2, 3-1 CCL) will host Channel Islands on Monday.
