Carpinteria High girls tennis pulled out a 10-8 non-league victory over Villanova Prep on Monday in Carpinteria.
The Warrior win can be largely attributed to doubles dominance, with the home team earning eight of the nine doubles wins. The Carpinteria singles did just enough to pick up the win.
The Warrior duos of Sadie West/Caroline Cooney and Emily Banks/Cailyn Gillen each went undefeated at 3-0, while Yaretzi Moctezuma/Ariana Cruz turned in a 2-1 performance.
In singles action, Aubrey Alcaraz and Yoselyn Aguirre each secured victories to give Carpinteria High the team win.
“Overall, we played really well after a bit of a slow start,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “We gained momentum throughout the three sets and beat a solid Villanova squad. It was a great matchup for both teams and each benefitted from how tightly contested it was.”
The Warriors (2-4) will begin Citrus Coast action on Tuesday against Fillmore.
