Carpinteria High girls tennis’ comeback effort fell just short in a loss to St. Bonaventure on Thursday in Carpinteria.
The two sides were tied at 9-9 after the full match, but the Seraphs pulled out the win with a 73-66 advantage in games won.
“I don’t think we were at our sharpest today as we made a lot of simple mistakes, but I do know the girls learned that each game matters and to fight for those games whether we are winning or losing in the set,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said.
“It is better to realize it now versus in a league match. We need to close out sets better and to scratch and claw our way back if we are behind.”
The Warrior duo of Emily Banks/Caroline Cooney went a perfect 3-0, Ariana Cruz/Cailyn Gillen turned in a 2-1 performance and Yoselyn Aguirre/Sarai Mora won their lone set together.
Meanwhile, Aubrey Alcaraz rounded out the Carpinteria High points with three singles victories.
The Warriors (1-3) will host Simi Valley on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
