Carpinteria High track & field hosted the 34th annual Rincon Races & Field Meet on Saturday for smaller schools on the South Coast.

The Warrior girls came out on top with 71 total points while the boys team came in fourth out of five teams at 37 points. The other schools participating were Nordhoff, who won the boys meet, Orcutt Academy, Foothill Tech and Fillmore.

“It was a good start to the season for the Warriors,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “We discovered some new talent and confirmed that we have a few events we need to shore up. We have a week to work on that.”

Vivian Huskins led the Warrior girls by winning three total events, including individual victories in the 100 and 200 meter races at 13.4 and 27.7 seconds, respectively.

She then joined Isla Moore, Averi Alexander and Kaydance Gardner to win the 4×100 relay with a time of 52.8 seconds.

Alexander also added two individual wins for Carpinteria, coming out on top in the long jump (15-5.5) and triple jump (34-1.25)

Meanwhile, Melani Avalos won both the discus (103) and shot put (29-2.25) while Kiana Kiah (1,200 meter) and Jackie Guadin (2,400 meter) earned first-place finishes as well.

On the boys side, Max Soto crossed the finish line first in the 2,400-meter race with a time of 8:08.8.

The Warriors will kick off Citrus Coast League action on Thursday in Malibu.
