Carpinteria High girls track & field captured the Citrus Coast League championship on Thursday in Carpinteria.

The Warrior girls beat out Fillmore, 142-106, to complete an undefeated league season. On the boys side, Channel Islands came out on top and Carpinteria finished in sixth with 39 points.

“It was a great day for the Warriors,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “We knew it was going to be a close meet with the Fillmore girls. It was a pleasant surprise to win the meet by double digits.

“This the third league championship in a row for the girls and four out of the last five. We are looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish at the CIF Prelims.”

Melanie Avalos set a pair of personal records and took home two league titles in the shot put and discus with throws of 35-2.75 and 121-0, respectively. Her discus throw broke the league record.

Meanwhile, Averi Alexander won both the long jump and triple jump with marks of 15-9.25 and 34-9.5, respectively. She repeated as champion in both events.

Izzy Scott was the other girls individual event winner, placing first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.17.

Scott was joined by Kaydance Gardner, Giarys Gomez and Halleh Gahan to run 4:17.70 and run away with the 4×400 relay title. The 4×100 relay team of Alexander, Gardner Vivian Gomez and Anna Morrison came in second.

The other Warrior CIF qualifiers were Vivian Gomez (1000 meter, 200 meter), Kiana Kiah (800 meter), Gahan (300 hurdles), Morrison (triple jump) and Giarys Gomez (400 meter).

On the boys side, Nathan Carrillo was the lone league champion with a first-place mark of 10-3 in the pole vault. He also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles after placing second at 45.18 seconds.

Sawyer Kelly (triple jump), Max Soto (3,200 meter) and Jeremy Haines (pole vault) all qualified in their respective events as well.

Carpinteria High will host the CIF-SS Div. 4 prelims on May 10th, beginning at 11 a.m.
