Carpinteria High girls volleyball dropped a five-set thriller with Malibu on Wednesday in Carpinteria, 26-24, 25-18, 19-25, 14-25, 8-15.
“We played a really strong game, but Malibu was able to come back and play better down the stretch,” Warrior head coach Richard Quitoriano said. “We’ve made some roster changes and I think they’re looking good — hopefully we can build on this and finish the season strong.”
Evelyn Aviles recorded a double-double for Carpinteria with 15 assists and 12 digs to go along with four aces. Meanwhile, Skyla Delwiche chipped in three kills, three assists and three blocks.
Harper Rowbottom served up 10 aces, hammered down five kills and picked up eight digs. Samantha Sanchez collected a season-high 29 digs on the defensive end.
The Warriors will be on the road against Channel Islands on Thursday.
Providence 3, Midland 0
The Patriots earned a sweep of Midland on Wednesday in Santa Barbara, 25-22, 25-13, 29-27.
“Midland fought hard tonight, but our girls held their ground,” Providence head coach Bret Shellabarger said. “Rosie (Murren) really led the Patriots with grit and hard work. I’m really proud of the girls for putting this one away when they needed to.”
Murren and Liliana Sklar led the Patriots with six kills apiece, while Sklar also collected 12 aces. ShirEl Salomon also had a strong night from the service line with 10 aces.
Providence will take on Carpinteria High on Friday at 5 p.m.
