Carpinteria High girls water polo dropped a non-league matchup with Ventura by a score of 14-9 on Wednesday in Ventura.
“Our girls got caught up in too many 50-50 balls, which led to turnovers,” Warrior head coach Russell Russo said. “But we had a heart-to-heart in the fourth quarter to revisit our overall offensive and defensive plan.
“The message was clear—we needed to work together rather than isolate ourselves in possession.”
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the two teams battling to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first. Ventura found its groove in the second quarter to take a three-goal advantage into halftime.
Carpinteria made some defensive adjustments at halftime and they paid off, allowing just two goals in the third. However, the Warrior offense managed just one goal in the process.
The Warriors made a surge in the fourth quarter, but Ventura fended off the comeback effort to earn the win.
Carpinteria High will host Santa Paula on Thursday.
