The Carpinteria High Surf Team competed in its first Scholastic Surf Series competition at Zuma Beach in Malibu last Sunday.
The Warriors, who are slated in the Los Angeles to Santa Barbara High School Division, ended the day with the highest point total of any team in the competition.
The other teams competing were Westlake, Malibu, Palisades, Loyola, Pacifica Christian, Santa Barbara, Cate and Oaks Christian.
“The heart is the start of success, and from the very first practice last year I was impressed by everyone’s work ethic and stoke,” Carpinteria coach Chris Keet said. “I believe that with some focus points, we can get multiple surfers in every final and do really well this season.”
Charlotte Cooney was the top performer for the Warriors, placing first in the girls longboard.
Meanwhile, both Izzy Scott and Wyatt Pitterle finished in second place in the girls shortboard and the boys shortboard, respectively.
John Morrison came in third place in the boogie board event while Noah Morente rounded out the group with a sixth-place finish in the boys longboard.
Carpinteria will be back in action on Sunday at Emma Wood in Ventura. For more information, visit https://carpsurfteam.com/.
