Carpinteria High boys and girls swim swept every event against Fillmore in a league meet on Wednesday.
“I was not very optimistic about the kids swimming fast with many of them taking the whole week off for spring break, but thankfully they proved me wrong,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said.
Jackson Melton set the tone early for the Warriors, placing first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.12) and the 100 freestyle (50.55).
“[Melton] really came to swim fast today, taking the opportunity to swim ‘off’ events due to the regular sprint freestylers being absent,” Otsuki said.
The only other double winner for Carpinteria was Matthew Endow, who won the 100 backstroke and the 100 fly, narrowly beating out teammate Sky Korling.
Other individual winners for the boys were Griffin Yamaoka (200 IM), Korling (50 freestyle) and Eli Sheaffer (100 breaststroke).
The girls were led by a trio of double winners in Lilli Nemetz (100 fly, 100 backstroke), Giulia Piccoletti (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle) and Mina Handall (200 IM, 100 breaststroke).
“Nemetz would more often be seen in the 200 IM and 500 free but changed her events due to prolonged sickness so we had to reduce her workload,” Otsuki said. “It is great to have her prove she can be a versatile threat in whatever event she is placed in.”
Rounding out the winners for the girls was Hazel Dugre in the 50 freestyle.
The Warriors will take on Cate School on the road on Friday.
