Carpinteria High swim continued its dominance over the Citrus Coast League with two team championships on Thursday.

The Warrior boys won their fifth straight league title while the girls claimed back-to-back championships.

“There were so many standout performances today, it’s difficult to single one out, and that’s the satisfaction for a fantastic team effort,” Carpinteria High head coach Jon Otsuki said.

The Carpinteria trio of Jake Ehlers (49.09), Jacob Otsuki (50.06) and Massimo Bonilla Zakosek (52.0) swept the 100 freestyle to lead the boys to a win.

Chris Reed was the lone double individual event winner for the boys, taking first place in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. Other winners were Jacob Otsuki (50 freestyle), Ehlers (100 freestyle), Sky Korling (100 fly) and Stefano Piccoletti (100 breaststroke).

The Warrior girls swept the 200 IM as Madison Lee, Lucia Smith and Mina Handall placed first, second and third, respectively.

Individually, Izzy Scott led the way with a pair of victories in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Meanwhile, Smith won the 100 backstroke and Giulia Piccoletti broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke.

“Everyone contributed today in and out of the pool,” Jon Otsuki said. “The team spirit was outstanding, and across the board, we probably came close to 75% of our swims resulting in personal best times.

“It was an exhausting week, and I am proud of the kids’ mental toughness and grit. They were not going to be denied anything because they earned it.”
