Carpinteria High track & field competed in a Citrus Coast League meet against Malibu High on Thursday in Malibu.
The Warrior girls earned an 82-48 victory while the Carpinteria boys fell by a score of 78-51.
“It was a cold blustery day in Malibu,” Warriors head coach Van Latham said. “The Warriors adapted well to the conditions. We had many solid performances. It was a good start to our Citrus Coast League season.”
Vivian Huskins and Averi Alexander each won three events with Huskins taking first place in the 100-meter (13.44) and 200-meter (27.48) while Alexander came out on top in the long jump (15-8) and triple jump (33-3.5) They were both part of the first-place 4×100 relay team.
Meanwhile, Melani Avalos had a strong day at the throws with a pair of season-bests in the shot put (29-3) and discus (112-10).
Kiana Kiah captured the win in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 5:46.82 and Haley Gahan won the 300-meter hurdles.
As for the boys, Nathan Carillo was a double individual winner in the 110-meter high hurdles (19.76) and the pole vault (9-0). He was also a member of the first-place 4×400-meter relay team.
David Esquivel, also a member of the winning relay squad, took first place in the 400-meter race.
The duo of Sawyer Kelly (triple jump, 36-1) and Sebastian Chisum (shot put, 38-1) rounded out the Carpinteria winners.
