Richard Johnson, who served on the Carpinteria’s Architectural Review Board for 18 years, has stepped down, city staff announced Monday.
His term was set to end on Jan. 31, 2027. The city is now accepting applications to fill that seat.
City staff did not publicly provide a reason for Johnson’s resignation. Johnson did not respond to a Noozhawk request for comment.
He was the only architect on the city’s ARB, according to Carpinteria Community Development Director Nick Bobroff.
Bobroff thanked Johnson for his service to the city and a formal recognition will be scheduled for a future Carpinteria City Council meeting.
“He provides a really valuable perspective and professional expertise, and we’re going to miss him, but we congratulate him on a job well done, and hope he enjoys what comes next,” Bobroff said.
The five-member ARB meets at Carpinteria City Hall, 5775 Carpinteria Ave., to review the architectural factors of Carpinteria projects. The board also advises city staff and the Carpinteria Planning Commission.
The board member application can be viewed online here. City staff said additional application questions can be directed to City Clerk Brian Barrett at brianb@carpinteriaca.gov.
Applicants must be living within the City of Carpinteria boundaries.
