Talon Trumble hit two doubles and drove in three RBI to back the pitching of Shane Goodmanson in Carpinteria’s season-opening 9-3 baseball win at Channel Islands on Wednesday.
It was also the Citrus Coast League opener for both teams.
Goodmanson, a junior, threw 6.1 innings and allowed five walks, walked two and struck out two.
The Warriors played error-free defense behind Goodmanson, who was relieved by Gabe Martinez. He finished the game by retiring the final two batters.
Erich Goebel, Diego Nieves and Matt Munõz joined Trumble with multiple hits. Goebel had a single, double, stole three bases, scored two runs and drove in a run.
Nieves hit a double and a triple and scored a run and Muñoz reached base three times, scored twice and delivered a big two-out, two-shriek hit to bring in a pair of runs.
“The season opener is fun no matter what and to pick up a win on the road in a CCL game makes it even more exciting,” said Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney. “It still feels so early to be playing games that count as we have really a lot of work to do to get up to speed.
“To see this level of competitiveness in our players out of the gate is really encouraging.”
The Warriors continue CCL action in their home opener on Friday against Fillmore at 3 p.m., at John Calderwood Field.
