Carpinteria High swimming celebrated senior recogniton day with a sweep of Fillmore in the final Citrus Coast League dual meet on Wednesday.
The boys cruised to a 136-21 win and the girls nearly matched the score with a 109-19 victory.
“It is bittersweet to see this amazing group of seniors swim their last high school home meet,” said coach Jon Otsuki. “Some of the seniors have been swimming at the local pool for over 10 years and others 2-3 years. Nevertheless the level they have attained in their career is amazing.”
Junior Lilli Nemetz, the Warriors’ designated distance swimmer, won the 100 fly and 100 back for the first time this year. Sophomore Giulia Piccoletti was another double winner taking advantage of the open lane Nemetz left to win the 500 free and the 50 free. Seniors Erin Otsuki (100 free automatic qualifying), Monica Delgado (200 free), Kate Isaac (200 IM), and Malaya Morente (100 breast) were also honored on the podium with individual event wins.
The Carpinteria girls had one relay objective: to swim a deeper consideration time in the 4 x 50 free relay. The mission was successful as Nemetz, Morente, Otsuki teamed with sophomore Piccoletti to touch in at 1:48:06, .33 faster than the division 3 automatic standard.
The boys managed to knock two seconds off their season best in the 4 x 100 free relay.
Senior Justin Main celebrated senior day as the sole double individual winner, capturing both the 200 free and 100 fly. Sophomore Jacob Otsuki continues to claim king of the sprints as he posted a 23:33 in the 50 free to capture first place. Other event winners included Jackson Melton (200 IM), Eli Sheaffer (500 free), Matthew Endow (100 back), Aiden Alcaraz (100 free) and senior Jacob Taff (100 breast) all event winners posted times under the consideration time standards
The Warriors will travel to Malibu for the Citrus Coast League Championships on Tuesday (preliminaries) and Thursday (finals). Those swimmers who have automatic times or fastest consideration times will compete May 4 and 6 at the CIF championships in Riverside.
