Carpinteria’s boys relay team of Justin Main, Jackson Melton, Asher Smith and Jacob Otsuki set a school record of 1:30.13 in the 4×50 at the CIF-SS Division 3 Prelims Thursday at the Riverside Aquatics Center.

That team also improved their seeding to No. 3 in the event heading into Saturday’s finals.

They didn’t stop there. The same foursome  also will be the No. 3 seed in the 4×100 finals after splitting 50.27, 49.22, 50.10 and 49.61, respectively.  The boys also qualified for consolation finals in the 200 medley relay finishing 14th place.

The Warrior girls relay team of Erin Otsuki, Giulia Piccoletti, Taylor Classen and Lilli Nemetz improved their seeding from No. 7 to No. 3 for the finals.

And the 4×100 girls freestyle relay finished 8th and advance to the “A” final for Saturday.

Individually, senior Erin Otsuki was the Warrior standout, finishing third in the 100 backstroke with a personal best 58.83 and sixth in the 100 freestyle at 54.12.

Sophomore Giulia Piccoletti did not make a Saturday final swim — but she did set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1.13.28.

For the boys, Jackson Melton will get another chance in both his events, the 200 IM  and 100 breaststroke, where he will be the 11th seed in both.

Justin Main qualified at 13th in the 50 freestyle and 16th in the 100 free.

“Asher Smith will get his last shot of the season at the school record in the 100 backstroke,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “He is currently less than 2-tenths of a second off the record.”

The Warriors boys and girls head back to Riverside Saturday morning for the finals.
