Carpinteria swept a Citrus Coast League swim meet against Channel Islands at the Hueneme High pool on Wednesday. The girls won 110-33 and the boys rolled to a 131-25 decision.
“The Warriors were successful in their objective, keying in on the 4 x 100 freestyle relays for both boys and girls in an attempt to lower their consideration times,” said Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki. “Otherwise the cold weather and warmer than normal water temperature made improvements hard to come by.”
Standout swims included sophomore Matthew Diamond lowering 3 seconds in his 200 freestyle and almost 2 seconds in his 100 freestyle (58:55) to break 1:00 for the first time.
Freshman Aiden Alcaraz clocked 24:80 in the 50 freestyle and dropped his time by 10.5 second in the 500 freestyle (5:27:09) in just his fourth lifetime swim in the event.
Lilli Nemetz led the girls, recording personal bests by 3 seconds in the 200 free (2:05:33) and 2.5 seconds 500 free (5:39:91).
Nemetz, senior Erin Otsuki (50 free and 100 backstroke) and junior Giulia Piccoletti (200 IM and 100 breaststroke) were double individual event winners.
Devyn Clayton claimed the 100 fly and Malaya Morente the 100 free.
The Carpinteria girls captured first place in all three varsity relays.
Junior Asher Smith was the lone Warrior with a double with wins in the boys 50 and 100 freestyle events. Individual winners were Jackson Melton (200 IM), Jacob Otsuki (200 free), Matthew Endow (100 fly), Aiden Alcaraz (500 free), Jake Ehlers (100 backstroke) and Jacob Taff (100 breaststroke). The boys also swept all three varsity relays.
The Warriors compete at the Royal Invitational in Simi Valley on Saturday.
