The Warriors battled back from a 17-4 first quarter deficit to come within seven points early in the second half, but the bigger Nordhoff team dominated the boards in a 51-32 Carpinteria loss in Citrus Coast League action Thursday.

The Warriors were led by seniors Hannia Hernandez with 18 points and Jasmine Gilbert with 11. Freshman Lizbeth Alpizar had 10 rebounds.

“Though we started slowly against a bigger and aggressive Ranger team, we battled to the end,” Carpinteria coach Henry Gonzales said. “We kept fighting and had many scoring opportunities but could not convert. The Warriors have shown great improvement and continue to gain valuable experience.”

Carpinteria is 0-5 in league play and 0-6 overall. The Warriors host Santa Paula on Tuesday.
