The Carpinteria’s boys volleyball thrilled a large and noisy home-court crowd Wednesday by winning a CIF-SS Division 5 quarterfinal match in a sweep of Yucaipa, 25-19, 25-13, 25-17.
The Warriors move on a semifinal match Saturday against Fairmont Prep in Anaheim.
The Warriors were paced to their 12th sweep of the season by a pair of double-doubles. Diesel Slade recorded 12 kills and 16 digs, to go along with two aces and a block, and Joaquin Gonzalez added 17 kills and a block.
Gonzalez also went on service runs of seven points in the first set and five in the third. Gavin Lohuis helped out the hitters with 41 assists, and he added service runs of four points in the second set and three in the third — including the match winner.
Sebastian McCurry provided 28 digs on the night, and added a service run of five points in the third set. River Taff and Zach Isaac both had seven kills, with Isaac adding 18 digs and a block.
“The very loud home town crowd really helped us and we were playing some of our best volleyball of the season with our aggressive style of play,” Warrior coach Mickey Caughey said.
“The crowd, the players and the coaching staff all went crazy after this CIF-SS quarterfinal win!”
