Hunter Garcia’s RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh pulled Carpinteria within a run of Hueneme, but a subsequent ground-ball out to end the game left the Warriors with a loss in the 7-6 Citrus Coast League contest.
Miles Souza and Luke Lounsbury both had three hits for the Warriors, with Lounsbury scoring three runs and Souza collecting three RBIs.
“Sometimes you have to tip your cap to a good pitching effort, and (Viking pitcher Ismael) Robles was effective and gritty,” Carpinteria coach Patrick Cooney said. “The Hueneme defense played well behind him.
“It was great to see our guys respond each time Hueneme scored but also frustrating to know that we made just enough little mistakes for the Vikings to expose,” Cooney added. “We had a chance to tie in the 7th which was exciting but I bet our guys know that we put ourselves into a tough spot. We’ll bounce back and improve.”
Carpinteria is 7-3 overall and 6-2 in CCL play, while Hueneme is 4-10 and 3-5.
