Carpinteria lost a 2-1 overtime decision against Malibu in a Citrus Coast League girls soccer game on Wednesday.

Cydney Smolnikar scored for the Warriors, slotting home a pass from Ashley Verdusco in the first half.

“The girls gave everything and for that I am so proud of their tireless work rate and effort,” coach Charles Bryant said. “Our frustration continues as we just cannot get over that hump.  We really felt we deserved the win and with the exception of the first 15 minutes or so, this was a tough back and forth game.”

Malibu scored the game-winner with about two minutes left in the second overtime period.

Carpinteria falls to 2-12-2 overall and 0-6-1 in league.
