Carpinteria finished the regular season with a 12-6 non-league home win over Bishop Diego on Friday.

Connor Gralewski and Ryan Souza, pairing for the first time in doubles play, swept their three sets for the Warriors..

“They looked good together and played well in all three sets,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said.

No. 1 singles player Austin Stone went 2-1 for the Warriors.

Luke Williams, the Cardinals’ No. 1 singles player, took all three of his sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.

“Luke worked hard today to win his crosstown rivals and long term competitors,” Bishop Diego coach Natlee Hapeman said. “With every shot calculated, his well-played strategy came out on top today.”

In the set pitting the two No. 1 players “was a well-fought match,” Bryant said, “but Luke started a little faster and Austin had to play catch up, but came up short, losing 6-3.”

Max Stone went 1-1 in singles for Carpinteria, and senior Steven Bengry 1-0.

In addition to sweeping his singles sets for Bishop Diego, Hapeman said “Luke’s inspirational speech” motivated teammates Thomas Coleman and Daniel Kagramanov to two set wins in doubles.

Carpinteria finishes the regular season at 6-4 overall and 3-0 in Citrus Coast League play. Bishop Diego is 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Frontier League.
