Aly Springer and Yaritza Santes Rosales each scored two goals, leading the Carpinteria girls soccer team to a season-opening win at Cate on Monday.

Springer opened the scoring with a 20-yard free kick. Santes Rosales scored off a Erika Estrada assist and Estrada tallied a goal for a 3-0 lead in the firset half.

Goalkeeper Ariana Lounsbury preserved the lead with some outstanding play, said coach Charles Bryant. “She was fearless coming off of her line and had sure hands on any shots coming her way.”

Cate got goals from Charlotte Weis (68 min), Lilly Riehl (75 min) and kept pressuring Carpinteria. But the Warriors prevented any good looks at goal and did a good job counter attacking.

Springer and Santes Rosales put the game away with counter-attack goals.

“The game overall was pretty even,” said Bryant. “Cate did a lot of nice things out there and they had a good idea of what they wanted to do on offense.  But we seemed to find a way to force a turnover and look to counter especially in the second half.”
