Zahra Porinsh swept her three singles sets, and Carpinteria got sweeps from two doubles teams en route to a 14-4 win over defending chanmpion Northview in a CIF-SS Divison 4 first-round match on Wednesday

The Carpinteria girls tennis team shook off a bit of a slow start to beat defending CIF champion, Northview, in the first round of CIF today at very windy Carpinteria HS, 14-4.  This was a much closer match than the score and many of the early sets could have swung a different direction.  That’s why I am so proud of how the girls handled the elements, the first playoff match jitters and playing the defending champions.

Silke Leonard went 2-1 at No. 2 singles and Maria Sanchez had a 2-1 day at No. 2 singles.

In doubles, Ariana Lounsbury/Charlotte Cooney dominated their three opponents, while Ashley Gonzalez/Natalie Martinez also swept, pulling out a 7-5 win against Northview’s No. 1 team in the final round. Stephanie Ramirez/Sasha Porinsh went 2-1.

The Warriors will travel to either Serrano or Xavier Prep on Friday.
