Carpinteria’s Jackson Melton broke his own school record in the 100 breaststroke for the fourth time this year as the Warrior boys beat Newbury Park 100-70.
The shorthanded Carpinteria girls lost to the Panthers 111-53.
The size of the Newbury Park team impressed Warrior coach Jon Otsuki.
“It was the David vs Goliath swim meet as the Newbury Park Panthers spilled out of the school bus,” Otsuki said. “The team of over 75 vs the Carpinteria team of almost 30.
Melton also swam two seconds faster than his season best in the 200 IM, nearly capturing the school record in that event too. Both individual event wins “were deep into the Division 3 consideration time standards,” Otsuki said.
Melton teamed up with Asher Smith, Justin Main and Jacob Otsuki in two relays, the 200 Medley relay and the 4 x 50 freestyle relay, both achieving automatic qualifying times — and the 4 x 50 free team broke the school record they established earlier this season.
Senior Justin Main had season best times of 23.10 and 50.06 for the 50 free and 100 free, respectively, and both times placed him well under the division 3 consideration standards. Matthew Endow won the 100 fly and 100 backstroke with consideration times, and Jacob Otsuki had a consider time in the 100 free, Chase Glasgow in the 100 back, Jacob Taff in the 100 breast, and event winner Eli Sheaffer in the 500 freestyle.
On the girls side, senior Erin Otsuki touched first in both the 50 freestyle in a consideration standard and 100 backstroke in an automatic standard. Junior Lilli Nemetz was another double winner capturing the 200 and 500 freestyle events, both under consideration times.
Carpinteria will travel to Hueneme High School to face Channel Islands next Wednesday.
