Carpinteria’s top-seeded doubles team of Ariana Lounsbury and Charlotte Cooney won the Citrus Coast League Individual Tournament crown Wednesday, beating Malibu’s second-seeded team of Mathea Lasky/Athena Ram in the finals, 6-4, 6-2.
In the singles, the Warriors’ Zahra Porinsh placed second Malibu’s top-seeded Galen Selbert Perkins in the finals, 6-3, 6-4. Pornish was seeded second.
Lounsbury and Cooney, and singles player Pornish, all qualify for the CIF-SS Individual Sectionals on November 21.
Carpinteria’s Silke Leonard placed third, beating Malibu’s Maxine Kelly 6-3, 6-2. Leonard, bettering her fifth seed with that finish, will be an alternate for the CIF individual tournament.
Carpinteria’s Ashley Gonzalez and Natalie Martinez finished fourth in the doubles, losing in the third-place match to Nordhoff’s Anna Falvo and Cassidy Gaston, 6-3, 6-1.
“Some great action and even more importantly, excellent sportsmanship, on all four courts!” said Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant. “Very impressive!
And a huge shout out to Channel Islands High School for hosting and to coach Brett Zielsdorf and his players for the kindness and support they provided.”
