The Righetti High School Drama Department will present “The Outsiders” inside the school’s Black Box Theatre (rm. 403), 7 p.m. Oct 17, 18, 24 and 25, with preview show 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.
“The Outsiders” is about the character Ponyboy Curtis and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes he is an outsider.
The play, based in the novel by SE Hinton, who wrote it when she was just 15, relates to the challenges of being a teenager grappling with what it means to be growing up, feeling apart, and finding friendship while dealing with life and loss.
“I remain impressed by the far-reaching impact of ‘The Outsiders,’” said Righetti drama teacher Elesa Carlson. “I continue to hear from so many, old and young, who were deeply touched by this story at a pivotal age because it connects so deeply to the teen experience.
“Our talented actors feel it, too, and are so ready share its message with our community. We are so excited to tell this powerful story.’’
There are 26 students running the show between tech and crew. Also, several students from Ag Mechanics and Welding, as well as RHS Art Club got involved with the set.
