Catcher Riley Monroe collected four hits and four RBI and Georgia Wilson threw a four-hit shutout for Dos Pueblos in a 9-0 Channel League softball win at Cabrillo on Friday.
Monroe went 4 for 5 and drove Mia Reveles with a triple down the left-field line for the Chargers’ first run in the first inning. Jessica Reveles followed with a RBI single.
Bella Nuno had another big day at the plate, going 3-5 with a double and a triple. Jessica Reveles went 2-4 with two RBI.
The shutout was in jeopardy in the sixth, but the Chargers made a great defensive play to end the inning. Outfielder Mia Reveles made a one-hop throw to the plate and Monroe tagged out a Cabrillo runner who was trying to score from second on a two-out single.
“This was probably our best game of the year,” said DP coach Mike Gerken. “We played very cleanly on defense today and we got great at-bats up and down the order, and our base running got us a couple extra runs.
“Jessica Reveles was so smooth at short today and once again, our outfielders tracked down a lot of well-hit balls. Mia made a great throw home to Riley to end the sixth. Credit to Riley for holding on to the ball on a pretty solid collision at the plate.”
Dos Pueblos finished the first round of league play at 5-0 and improved to 9-3 overall.
