Cate School found plenty of success throughout the spring sports season, from a league championship on the diamond to a CIF-SS title on the tennis court.
Many of those spring student-athletes had strong individual seasons that led to team success, and they were rewarded with All-League honors. Here is the full list of honorees.
Baseball
Competing in the Frontier League, the Rams put together a strong season on the diamond and captured the league title after going 7-1 against league opponents.
Seniors Quinn Pullen and Peter Lehman led the way for Cate and they were rewarded with a pair of individual honors. Pullen was named the Co-Player of the Year alongside Dunn’s Theo Anderson, while Lehman earned the league’s Pitcher of the Year award.
While the seniors led the charge, the junior trio of catcher Noah Casbarro, outfielder/pitcher Chase Meyer and outfielder Josh Butler had strong seasons on their way to being named to the All-League First Team.
Sophomore outfielder Alex Ke, sophomore third baseman Andrew Tanner and freshman first baseman Jonah Vann showed that the future is bright for Cate baseball, as they pulled in All-League Second Team honors.
Freshman infielder Alejandro Sandoval rounded out the team’s honorees as an All-League Honorable Mention.
Boys Tennis
The Rams dominated on the tennis court this spring, cruising through the Tri-Valley League before winning the CIF-SS Division 3 title, the program’s second in three seasons.
The senior pairing of Nate Newlove and Harry Su was at the front of the doubles attack all year and were named the Tri-Valley League Doubles MVPs.
Meanwhile, the freshman tandem of Andrew Jayich, Bruce Li and Kendrick Suen kicked off their high school careers in style with All-League First Team selections.
Sophomore Kakeru Hirofuji also shined in singles play on his way to an All-League Second Team nod.
Boys Swim
The Rams had a successful year in the pool, led by junior Jae Wykoff and sophomore Josiah Hansen, who each earned two All-League First Team honors. Hansen also collected two Second Team honors while Wykoff tallied one of his own.
Senior Phin Stephenson, junior Mo Kanda Gleeson, junior Elliot Paige and sophomore Wil Rivera were all named to the All-League First Team as well.
Rivera collected three All-League Second Team honors, Paige was an All-League Second Teamer in one event and Kanda Gleeson ended the year with a pair of Honorable Mentions.
Senior Ben White came home with three All-League Second Team honors, while senior Joba Samson had two of his own. Senior Baye Breene and sophomore Devon Liang were each named to the Second Team.
Junior Sebastian Brine pulled in two All-League Honorable Mention honors, while Liang added one of his own.
Girls Swim
On the girls side, sophomore Emi Kanda-Gleeson dominated the Tri-Valley League with four All-League First Team honors. She was followed by junior Jen Won, who earned three First Team selections of her own.
Senior Stella Rogers, sophomore Tori Kim, sophomore Madeleine Kollock and freshman Sofia Wang all made their impacts felt as well as two-time All-League First Team honorees and one-time Second Teamers.
Rogers, Kollock and Wang all picked up All-League Honorable Mentions as well.
Boys Track & Field
Senior Zachary Goins shined in the triple jump to be Cate’s lone representative on the All-League First Team for boys track & field. He was also a member of the All-League Second Team.
Sophomores Jackson Steele and Miles Thompson excelled in several events with three and two All-League Second Team selections, respectively.
Meanwhile, junior Thomas Claypool, sophomore Ryan Chen, sophomore Ati Zwieback and freshman Malcom Gray earned All-League Second Team nods. Zwieback was also an Honorable Mention selection.
Junior Andrew Peng capped off the team’s All-League selections as an Honorable Mention.
Girls Track & Field
The trio of senior Francesca Sutch, junior Emerson Evans and freshman Sloan Harwell led the charge on the girls side, each pulling in two All-League First Team selections.
Harwell also earned two All-League Second Team honors, while Sutch and Evans tallied one apiece. Evans also earned an Honorable Mention in one event.
Junior Gwen McTigue was the final of the All-League First Team members, while also picking up an Honorable Mention.
Senior Nika Iverson and freshman Aggie McTigue had strong seasons as members of the All-League Second Team.
Finally, senior Isabella Efner, senior Daisy Gemberling and junior Elise Tsai were awarded All-League Honorable Mention selections.
Boys Volleyball
The Rams were led on the offensive end by senior outside hitter Mack Nieman, who played his way onto the All-League First Team.
His fellow seniors, outside hitter Henry Bouma and setter Zadin Stephens, played key roles throughout the season as well on their way to the All-League Second Team.
