Cate advanced to the championship game of the Nordhoff Invitational with a 58-48 win over Fillmore on Friday night.
The Rams will face Camarillo for the title at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Babacar Pouye scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for this fourth double-double in as many games. Tyler Martinez had 16 points and Jengus Ercil added 11 for the 4-0 Rams.
“Tonight felt like a breakout game for sophomore Marcus Scudder and Josh Butler,” said Cate coach Andy Gil. “Both were able to find the gaps and make a lot happen by drawing in the defenders and kicking out. They each finished with 5 and 4 points, respectively.”
Bishop Diego 55, Santa Paula 40
The Cardinals got 17 points from Bryan Trejo in the tournament win.
Bishop pulled away from Santa Paula in the third quarter.
“Our rotations were off and it affected our timing on offense. We have to start playing with better basketball IQ,” said coach James Coronado. “I love our hustle and hard work, but we have to be smarter than the way we are playing and we are smarter. We just have to put it together.”
Bishop plays San Luis Obispo on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Foothill Tech 52, Carpinteria 48
Kainoa Glasgow scored 22 points for the Warriors in the loss at the Nordhoff Invitational.
Senior Rodolfo Jimenez and sophonore Carlo Suarez each scored 11 points.
The Warriors are now 1-6.
