Cate boys cross country finished in second place in the CIF-SS Division 5 finals on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.

The Rams finished just one point behind the champion Viewpoint School. With the finish, Cate clinched a spot in the state meet next week.

“When we spoke to the boys last night we talked about leaving it all out there today, and that’s exactly what they did.” Cate coach Tim Weir said.

Sebastian Sutch led the way with a third-place finish at 14:45 while Everest Schipper was right behind at 14:47 for for fourth place.

Following Sutch and Schipper were Ati Zwieback (30th, 16:08), Oliver Lee (44th, 16:29) and George Gordon (48th, 16:32).

“We couldn’t be more proud of these seniors, they have been running together for four years and had a season goal of qualifying for the State meet as a team,” Weir said. “They have worked extremely hard since the summer with their training and it’s very rewarding to see that hard work pay off.”
