Cate boys volleyball pulled out a four-set win over Dunn on Thursday, 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14.

Ben Richmond turned in a dominant outing for the Rams, collecting 16 kills and 14 digs on his way to a double-double.

Max DeVore (8 kills, 3 digs), Oliver Lee (7 digs, 3 aces) and Lucas Huiner (7 digs) registered strong performances as well in the win.

Lucien Tann came up clutch at the service line for Cate, tallying five aces to go along with his nine digs in the back row.

“Overall, the team came out excited and focused and it was a total team effort, with everyone participating to make this win happen,” Rams coach KC Collins said.

Cate will play host to rival Carpinteria High next Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Cardinals picked up a tight four-set win over the Dragons at home, 25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18.

The duo in the middle of Damien Krautmann and Nick Malesky proved to be the difference for the Cardinals in the victory.

Krautman tallied 12 kills, seven blocks, five digs and one ace while Malesky ended with 14 kills on 15 attempts with zero errors.

“In a long, hard-fought match late on the day before Spring Break, it seemed our guys had their minds on the weekend just slightly earlier than we needed,” Bishop Diego coach Dillan Bennet said. “The connection between Will, Nick (Neubauer), and Damien was critical for us to avoid a serious letdown at home in the Brick House.

“Foothill Tech is known for forcing us into long rallies, and our hitters become impatient. Nick and Damien were our most physical attackers over the course of the match.”

The Cardinals (11-13, 5-3 TVL) will take the next few days off while on spring break before competing in two matches and a tournament next week.
