Cate boys water polo pulled out a 16-6 non-league victory over Oxnard High in its home opener on Thursday in Carpinteria.
The Rams dominated the first half, racing out to a 7-2 lead before heading into the halftime break.
Cate continued to roll in the third quarter, ballooning the lead to 13-3 with just one quarter to play. The two sides each scored three goals in the fourth, allowing the Rams to hold on for the comfortable win.
Emmanuel Brine and Liam Moes led the Cate offense with four goals apiece, while Sebastian Brine and Fletcher Prince each scored three times. Elliott Paige and Jae Wykoff rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Wykoff was in the middle of the defensive effort with three steals, while Paige and Eric Jin had two steals apiece.
The Rams will take on crosstown rival Carpinteria High on Tuesday.
