The Cate boys marched on Friday night with their fifth straight win, 59-45 over visiting Villanova Prep.
Tyler Martinez and Jengus Ercil led a balanced scoring effort with 17 points apiece, with Babacar Pouye right behind with 15.
“Our defensive pressure and patience and execution continued tonight, which was a pleasure to see,” Rams coach Andy Gil said.
“Villanova’s Gavin Day is one of the top scorers in Ventura County, and we were able to hold him to nine points,” Gil added. “One of our big goals today was to slow him down, and we did a good job of that.”
The non-league win improved Cate’s record to 10-6 overall.
The Rams remain 4-2 in Tri-Valley League play. They host league-leader St. Bonaventure (5-1) at 7:30 p.m. Monday as the tight TVL race enters its last week of play.
