Cate High football cruised to a dominant 47-6 victory over Villanova Prep on Saturday.

“This was a great game to celebrate our Family Weekend,” Cate coach David Soto said. “It’s always special to see every member of the team contribute to a big win.”

The Rams’ defense got it started early, breaking a scoreless tie with a 35-yard pick-six by Kristian Scurtis to take a 7-0 lead.

After a Villanova touchdown, Scurtis got into the endzone on the offensive end this time with a 2-yard rushing touchdown.

Tyler Martinez then got in on the action on both sides of the ball, scoring on a 25-yard catch from Quinn Pullen and following that up with an interception.

Before halftime, Martinez, Cody Mast and Adrian Ordonez all scored touchdowns to give Cate a 40-6 lead heading into halftime.

The lone second-half score by the Rams came on a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Jakob Alefasio. The Cate defense did its job as well with three interceptions and relentless pressure on the quarterback.

“We played hard, got some really good experience, and came away from this game injury-free,” Soto said. “This was a great final regular-season home game to send our seniors out with.”

The Rams wrap up the regular season on the road against Thacher next Saturday.
