Cate girls lacrosse used a strong first quarter to pull ahead and eventually pull out a 12-6 win over Thacher on Thursday.
The Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime holding onto a commanding 7-1 advantage.
“We have a team that plays selflessly and moves the ball well,” Cate coach Renee Mack said. “As a result, six players accounted for our goals today.”
Thacher came out in a more aggressive zone defense in the second half and found some success, but Cate’s first-half lead proved to be too much to overcome.
“The pressure forced Cate to think faster and unfortunately make many errors with our passes, catching and ground balls,” Mack said. “We learned a lot from the second half of the game.”
Riley Pan put the finishing touches on the win for the Rams, securing four draws in the final four minutes of the matchup.
“We finished with a great win and I am really proud of the team this week,” Mack said.
Lucy Guilbert-Neal led Cate with three goals to go along with two assists while Sam Jimenez, Sophia Ospina, Maia Holmes and Pan all scored two goals apiece. Rounding out the scoring for the Rams was Carmen Lack.
Defensively, Jeeyou Jung collected five saves while Lauren Hubbs, Mel Davidson and Sophie Alijani had strong performances on that end of the field.
