Cate girls volleyball punched its ticket to the CIF-SS Div. 7 quarterfinals with a four-set win over Castaic High on Saturday in Castaic.

The Rams split the first two sets but responded with back-to-back victories to seal the match win, 26-24, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19.

“Pretty streaky game tonight, lots of lead changes and serving runs from both sides,” Cate head coach Jordon Dyer said. “We got off to a rocky start but stayed level and kept our poise, which I’m pretty proud of.”

The Rams will host Sante Fe for the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Carpinteria.

Castaic came out of the gates on fire, racing out to an early 6-0 lead. However, the Rams weathered the strom and battled back to take the set at 26-24.

The Coyotes found their groove in the second set, pulling away early and securing the 25-21 win.

Cate then regained the momentum in set three and carried it all the way to a set-four victory to clinch the postseason victory.

Oyin Opawumi racked up a match-high 23 kills, while Cassidy Rose chipped in 11 kills of her own.

Fallon Erickson facilitated the offense to the tune of 25 assists and Evangeline Little led the defensive effort with 17 digs.

“I’m proud of us getting the job done and overcoming adversity,” Dyer said.
