Cate School will be jumping on the girls flag football wave this fall.

The Rams will field their first-ever girls flag football team for the upcoming fall season, competing in the Tri-Valley League.

“Cate is proud to have the opportunity to offer the fastest growing girls team sport in the United States for the first time,” Cate athletic director Wade Ransom said. “Given the enthusiasm of the student body, I am sure we are heading towards a very exciting season.”

Cate’s league rivals will include local foe Bishop Diego, along with St. Bonaventure, Fillmore, Hueneme and Santa Paula.

According to Ransom, the school expects about 20 girls to compete for the team in its inaugural season.

The school is in search of its girls flag football team head coach, and those interested should contact Ransom at athletics@cate.org for more information.
