Cate evened its Tri-Valley League record at 2-2 with a 59-50 boys basketball win over Santa Clara on Monday night.
The Rams built a 34-21 halftime lead and held off a Saints’ comeback in the second half.
Babarcar Pouye led Cate with 17 points.
“Babacar was great for us tonight,” said coach Andy Gil. “He’s getting his stamina back and creating great shots for his teammates.”
Jengus Ercil added 11 points.
“What I loved most about today was how we shared the ball and got a ton of fantastic looks in transition,” said Gil. “Marcus Scudder was fantastic. He took care of the rock and made some dazzling layups in traffic. He did a good of containing a multitude of their guards as they run a lot of dribble handoffs.”
Santa Clara (2-2) was coming off a win against first-place Bishop Diego.
“Our league is tough and we have to bring it every night,” said Gil.
Tony Barrera led three players in double figures for Santa Clara (2-2) with 17 points.
“Tony is a hard matchup for us and all teams. He’s a big strong guard that does a great job getting defenders in the air and off balance,” said Gil.
The Rams (7-6 overall) play at Thacher in a league game on Wednesday night.
