Cate swim won both the boys and girls matchups against Carpinteria on Friday, with the Rams coming out on top 84-49 for the boys and winning 83-76 on the girls side.
“I knew Cate would be tough this year,” Warriors coach Jon Otsuki said. “It only makes sense that the kids who participate in water polo would be a big contribution to the swim program.”
On the girls side, Carpinteria’s lone double individual winner was Lilli Nemetz, who earned victories in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
Other individual winners for the girls included Lucy Moore (100 freestyle) and Giulia Piccoletti (100 breaststroke).
The final victories for the Warrior girls came in the 4×50 and 4×100 freestyle relays, courtesy of Nemetz, Moore, Piccoletti and Izzy Scott. Both times were CIF Div. 2 consideration times.
For the Carpinteria boys, the individual winners were Jackson Melton (200 freestyle), Jacob Otsuki (100 freestyle), Sky Korling (100 fly) and Asher Smith (100 backstroke).
“I believe today was the first time the boys failed to win a relay event in over four years,” Jon Otsuki said. “It just goes to show what a good program Cate has going, top to bottom they are a very formidable team and should place very high at CIF.”
The Warriors will host Channel Islands next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
